Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara is a famous American performer and actress, both of Irish descent. The green-eyed beauty , with her flaming red locks was well-known by her passionate and fiery roles in several American films. Her beauty and glamour were well-loved. She was also referred to as the 'Queen of Technicolor and was a household name in Hollywood. Her characters onscreen reflected her strong, brave spirit that struggled for recognition and survival in a male-dominated world. She was known as the "tough Irish girl" and was not willing to sacrifice her image or respect in order to obtain the roles she deserved through merit. She stood up to injustices and discrimination against female actors throughout her film career and earned a lot if admirers. The autobiography she wrote, "Tis herself", was published in 2004 and provided an unflinching review of her life including her struggles in her climb to success. She was an adventurous person who wasn't afraid to do her own stunts. She starred in over 60 films, and was a popular actor across the world. She was remarried in 1968 to Charles F. Blair Jr. who was a former air force pilot brigadier and chief of the air force who was a pioneer in transatlantic aviation. O'Hara eventually retired after couple of years of marriage. Her happiness was short-lived since Blair was killed in a fatal plane crash in 1978. In the same year, she was also diagnosed as suffering from uterine cancer and required undergo surgery immediately. She was successful in recovering. She was diagnosed with six heart attacks, a short-term memory loss and type 2 diabetes throughout the years. On October 24, 2015 O'Hara died peacefully at Boise, Idaho, from natural causes at the age of 95.
